Ideas for visiting Jumilla

Jumilla lies in the Altiplano of the Murcia Region, where the coastal terrains give way to the plains of La Mancha.

Jumilla’s wine production and wine culture are particularly notable for its use of Monastrell as a varietal. Jumilla’s wines are becoming ever more recognised at a national and international level. This can be seen from the numerous prizes they have received in recent years. It is also a Spanish Denominación de Origen (DO) for wine. Jumilla This DO is characterised by wide valleys and plateaus in the presence of mountains. It is a transition zone between the Mediterranean coastal area and the high central plateau of Castile-La Mancha. From this last region it takes important gastronomy traditions such us the Gazpacho Mancheco a very ancient Iberian staple food preparation. The town is steeped in history and cultural heritage, and a great many traces of its evolution are still visible today, but history and wine is not Jumilla’s only resource. The surrounding countryside is also a major attraction for nature lovers: the Sierra de Carche, the Sierra Larga or the Sierra de Santa Ana, among others, where visitors can admire the beautiful flora and wild fauna.
